In January 2010, as I celebrated 2 years of strong recovery, I finally decided that it was time to take action on a small dream of mine - to create a support group for those seeking recovery from their eating disorder. I began working on a meeting format, spoke to a few professionals, and began to spread the word.

I decided that Eating Disorder Awareness Week was the perfect time for our first meeting and so on February 23rd, 2010, the inaugural meeting was held. I knew that even if only one other person showed up, two people made a meeting and so that would make it a success!!

As I headed into ‘The Daisy Room’, I was filled with apprehension for what would take place. However, several smiling faces greeted me and that first meeting had about 6 people there! Ironically, only a few weeks later we had outgrown the small room and after a meeting where I had to lead from my seat on a cabinet, we had to move to a new location!

St Luke’s hospital has been our home ever since and our meetings range in number from 10 - 20 people, both men and women, and a variety of ages! Whether struggling from anorexia, bulimia, compulsive overeating, or an eating disorder not otherwise specified, the common bond shared by everyone is the desire to find freedom from their eating disorder. We even have friends and loved ones attending to gain more understanding on how to support a loved one!

So, if you’re looking for 90 minutes of laughter, tears, motivation, tools for recovery, support, and more, then why not check us out! I think you’ll be glad you did!!
